"The idea of telling one of these guys that smoking or drinking to excess was bad for his health was too ridiculously middle class to entertain. It bespoke a supreme ignorance of what their lives were really like - Hobbesian - not to put too fine a point on it. Nasty, brutish and short. The idea that you would try to prolong your grueling, dead-end life, and do it by taking away the few pleasures you had along the way, was just insulting."

actually, this is one of the first posts i made to this journal; it's backdated so as not to appear on friends' pages, and yes, it is purposely left as the one place for free-for-all commentary to | for | about yours truly. thank you for being the first to comment. :)

no, i haven't! that sounds hysterical. where can i find it?

chris eaton is the sweetest guy. i emailed him a while back, not really expecting a reply, and we've been chatting ever since. i wish more musicians were as kind as they are talented.

Hey I just clicked your name on OCT by accident xD
I noticed you've listened to Aesop Rock. You seem to like more fringe music, so I figured I'd ask if you've ever heard of a guy named Busdriver? He has this one song called Imaginary Places. SO good. Wanted to know what you thought of it, if you've heard (I can send it to you, if you like) because not many people seem to "get" it.

waaaaaay nice of you to randomly suggest music. i applaud this initiative, which should be followed by more nice young ladies. i have not heard busdriver, but if he's remotely like the Aes, i will aDORE him. if i were a woman, i'd be aesop's ho. :P

fire the busdriver track to jacobearl at gmail dot com. and merci beaucoup.

p.s. i have an awesome (recent) live arcade fire recording in its entirety, if you're interested. i also have a slew of really old live bootleg-style stuff dating back to early 2002 when i first booked them to ottawa, including a live cover of brazil and an old live version of "no cars go" - a track from their 2003 EP, which surprisingly popped up re-recorded on the new album.

Hello there. You might remember me from getting booed off the stage playing horrid James covers at venues like Jess's.

Okay, first of all that was one of the main points that stood out to me from Self-Made Man that I actually remember after the fact. And also a bunch of other stuff and reasons you are awesome. Imagine I said them here. Such as you have good taste in music and nice ink and stuff. Yeah, imagine I said that.

Second of all, hi. I found you on

Second of all, hi. I found you on <lj-user="audrawilliams">'s lj, who found me on <lj-user="zepharum">'s lj, who found me on <lj-user="dzuunmod">'s lj, who met me on an online dating site. Um. Just in case you want proof of where I came from, or something? Or at least a testament of how awesome I am because apparently people keep finding me places and adding me to various collections of online acquaintances. But now I found you! Maybe that was too much of a story and I'm weird. In fact, I'm almost certain.

Third of all, I mostly just wanted to say that I liked your beard because I saw you comment on <lj-user="audrawilliams">'s haircut post. Um. So I'm gonna add you, I guess? Hi. The end! /awkward

aside from the bad lj markup you seem pretty cool. :P

i mean, most people haven't even read self-made man, let alone comment on that point.

and if you know audra, i can't NOT be your friend, 'cause audra is awesomeness incarnate.
